In What's On

It's a busy month for Gloucester!

We are welcoming the festive season with open arms this November with Christmas markets, ice rinks, light switch-ons and the annual Lantern Parade, plus we have a range of live music, firework displays, workshops and so much more!

Community in Nature Lantern Making

01 Nov, The Folk of Gloucester

Inspired by how nature lives in community and how we can work together to protect it, the lanterns will use recycled materials and be inspired by the lanterns that will process through the streets at this year's lantern parade. Lanterns can be made and taken home, and everyone will be invited to return with their lanterns for the Tree of Light Switch-On in King's Square on Saturday 15th November from 4.30pm.

Fierce Folk - Strike A Light

Join Strike A Light for an evening of folk dance from around the world, brought to life with a fierce female perspective. Start your evening with a drink by the fire in the courtyard and a performance from the brilliant all-female Boss Morris, known for their playful, punk-inspired take on English Morris dancing. Followed by a vibrant performance from Gloucester's own Bharatanatyam dancers from NAPA Indian Performing Arts.

Young Knives

12 Nov, Gloucester Guildhall

Ever faithful to their manifesto "Young Knives: Not a band, not music, not art", brothers Henry Dartnall and The House of Lords have been turning out weirdly catchy records since the start of the millennium. Initially riding the wave of the mid 2000's British post-punk resurgence with a string of Indie disco classics and top 20 trojan horse hits, they quickly transcended any genre thrown at them by moving into more experimental electronica and noise rock in the 2010's.

Christmas Lights Switch On!

13 Nov, Gloucester Food Dock

Bring the whole family and get into the festive spirit as the Food Dock officially light up the Docks Christmas tree and the Food Dock Christmas Light Installations! Enjoy festive music, mulled wine, hot drinks from the Food Dock, and a visit from Father Christmas as we count down together for the big switch on! It's the perfect way to kick off the festive season.

Gloucester Lantern Parade

15 Nov, Gloucester City Centre

The Lantern Parade returns starring 'Community in Nature' magical lantern creations by local schools and community groups.

Enjoy a carol service at the Cathedral followed by the Lantern Parade inspired by how community is found in nature, lighting the way through the City Centre, and inspiring us to think about how coming together as a community is our superpower.

The procession will be illuminating the city centre as it moves through the gate streets and around the University of Gloucestershire building in King's Square, finishing at Blackfriars Priory.

Don't forget to visit the Tree of Light celebrations!
