October Half-Term is nearly here and Gloucester is jam-packed with a range of events for everyone to enjoy! Here are some highlights!

Tessy Tumblepot's Potion Trail

Until 02 Nov

This Halloween, help Tessy Tumblepot, the Museum of Gloucester's most muddled witch, brew her magical potion! She's lost all her spooky ingredients somewhere in the museum and needs clever young explorers to help track them down. Follow the trail, solve the clues, and uncover creepy, crawly, and curious items hidden among the exhibits. Once you've found them all, you'll discover the spell Tessy's been cooking up & get a prize at the end!

Time Traveller Scarecrows

Until 02 Nov

This October half term, Painswick Rococo Garden will be alive with time-travel magic! The much-loved Great Scarecrow Hunt is back – and this year's scarecrows come from the past and the future! The Garden will be filled with colourful Time Traveller Scarecrows from across the ages (and beyond!).

Autumn Threads

25 Oct - 02 Nov

Head down to the National Waterways Museum in the Gloucester Docks to discover the spookier side of canal crafts. Meet the stitching spiders and follow them around the museum to discover spider web stitching, quilting, traditional clothes and much more!  Activities for all ages and abilities plus drop in crafts on the Tuesday 28 October and Thursday 30 October!

Character Tour of the Folk

Explore the historic listed buildings with one of their costumed guides representing a real historical figure connected to The Folk of Gloucester. Delve into the rich and diverse history of these unique buildings. Hear shocking tales of characters like Bishop Hooper, who burned at the stake in 1555. Learn about the people who lived here during the Siege of Gloucester in 1643, listen to the gossip from a servant maid, or meet an Edwardian undertaker.

Kris Barras' Hollow Souls

British virtuoso blues-rock guitarist, former pro MMA fighter and hard rock frontman Kris Barras launches an exciting new musical collective that takes him back to his blues rock roots. Once the leading light of the young British blues-rock scene; he's back with a new band; Hollow Souls.

Siege of Gloucester Civil War Tour

Join local guide Jon Eeles for a Siege of Gloucester Civil War Tour starting at the Museum of Gloucester. Come along for 10.30 and grab a coffee in the café whilst Jon takes you through the reasons for the siege, why Gloucester chose Parliament over the King and learn more about the forces in and outside our walls. Handle genuine cannon balls and musket balls from the time, along with other items found on the battle sites around the city!

The Missing Hour

Join the Museum of Gloucester for some spooky building fun this Halloween at their Brick or Treat LEGO sessions—perfect for children aged 5 and up! These drop-in sessions are all about getting creative with bricks and a bit of Halloween magic. Build your own Frankenstein's Monster, a cheeky vampire, or a ghost with googly eyes—whatever spooky (or silly!) creature you can dream up.

Comunity in Nature Lantern Making

Join local artist, Ally Goff to create a lantern from recycled materials at The Folk of Gloucester. Inspired by how nature lives in community and how we can work together to protect it, the lanterns will use recycled materials and be inspired by the lanterns that will process through the streets at this year's lantern parade.

Potions & Cauldrons: The Legend of Ceridwen the Witch

Step into the world of Welsh myth with the tale of Ceridwen, a wise and powerful witch whose bubbling cauldron was said to hold the secrets of knowledge and inspiration. In this magical session for children, the Museum of Gloucester will bring the story to life through immersive storytelling, hands-on sensory potion-making, and a themed craft to take home.

Spooky Stories & Creepy Crafts at The Folk

Join The Folk of Gloucester (if you dare) for our fun-filled Halloween Half Term event! Each two-hour session includes spooky storytelling and chilling crafts with local story smith Sarah Snell-Pym, and a fiendish quiz trail around our 500-year-old building. Drink and sweet snack included.

The Magpie Arc

The Magpie Arc is a cross-border band from Sheffield, Edinburgh and Arran and features award-winning musicians Nancy Kerr, Findlay Napier, Tom Wright, Alex Hunter and tour guitarist, BBC Folk Award-winning Sam Carter. Formed to blend their songwriting and musicianship into a fresh take on the British folk rock sound of the '60s and '70s, the band quickly gained recognition for its unique mix of folk, rock, country, and prog-rock elements. Performing at Gloucester Guildhall on the 30 October. 

'What a Hoot!' Wild Child Workshop

Public Dress Rehearsal #1 Aboard the Kathleen & May

In preparation for their Guiness World Record Attempt on the 11 December, Dave (Mr Toasty) and his  crew will be having a public dress rehearsal abord Kathleen & May. All proceeds from this event and the Guinness World Record Attempt will be donated to the Kathleen & May CIC in support of the Save the Kathleen & May Campaign!

Soup Theatre - Dark Tales of Gloucestershire

Come along for a bowl of soup and a show at lunchtime! Hanged men, witches, sea serpents and drunken fairies can all be found in Spaniel In The Works Theatre Company's popular show, Dark Tales of Gloucestershire. The show takes traditional folk tales from the county and retells them in a lively, funny and exciting way using rhyme, music, dance and puppets. From the Royal intrigue of the Bisley boy to the sad tale of the ghost pub of Dursley and the strange Sea Serpent of Coombe Hill, Dark Tales of Gloucestershire is an ideal fun entertainment for family audiences.

Sea Shanties & Songs of the Sea Fundraiser

A fundraiser event aboard Tall Ship, the Kathleen & May, lying in Gloucester Docks. Performances start at noon on each day and will be a traditional mix of shanties, folk music and songs of the sea - all the while raising vital funds for the Kathleen & May. Enjoy lively melodies that celebrate maritime history and the joy of community spirit. Gangplank opens from 11.30 am.

The Plotters Revenge
