A trio of young musicians with a violin, concertina and double bass, next to a young man playing the accordion

About

A double-header gig showcasing two rising stars in the instrumental folk music scene:

Grace Smith Trio

Wielding the distinct voices of fiddle, concertina and double bass, the Grace Smith Trio brings together three like-minded musicians to create one dynamic and expressive musical dialogue. Acclaimed fiddle and viola player Grace Smith is joined by Sam Partridge (Concertina, Electric Guitar) and Bevan Morris (Double Bass) in this innovative ensemble, which offers a fresh take on folk.

Drawing deeply from tradition, whilst also expanding their repertoire with new melodies of their own, the Grace Smith Trio explores the boundaries of what folk can be. Bellows, bow and bass come together to mesmerising effect, with music that will stay with you long after you finish listening.
Their new album, Overleaf, is out now - supported by Help Musicians UK.

"If you're looking for the exciting future of instrumental folk music, you need search no further." - Folk Radio UK

Archie Churchill-Moss

Widely regarded as one of the best players of English traditional music, Archie has worked as a session musician for some of the UK's top folk acts (Cara
Dillon, Eliza Carthy, Blair Dunlop, Jim Moray) and producers (Andy Bell, Ed Harcourt), as well as performing with the trio 'Moore, Moss, Rutter' - the outfit which saw him receive the coveted BBC radio 2 folk award in 2011.

The past two years have seen Archie tour extensively across western Europe and perform at some of Europe's top music festivals, including headline slots at Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Tønder festival (Denmark), Cropredy Convention (UK) and Cambridge folk festival (UK).

With a contemporary approach to composition and arrangement, Archie has developed a style of playing that draws as much influence from the tradition as it does modern popular music. He is currently seen to perform with Tom Moore & Archie Moss, Sam Kelly & the Lost Boys and False Lights. His engaging presentation style comes from a wealth of experience in his position as senior lecturer in folk music at Leeds College of Music and teaching on the National Youth Folk Ensemble.

The cafe and bar will be open for the duration of the event.
