About

A warm welcome awaits you at Gloucester Cathedral - one of the finest medieval buildings in the country and the burial place of royalty.

Trace 1000 years of architectural styles from Norman through Perpendicular to the present day where our team of stonemasons are still carving and casting. The extraordinary fan-faulted medieval cloisters and Great East Window are national treasures and the Lady Chapel houses some of the finest Arts & Crafts glass in the country.

Daily public worship has re-commenced at the Cathedral. The Cathedral Eucharist will take place every Sunday at 10.15am and on each weekday Monday to Saturday, there will also be a short service of Holy Communion at 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

To keep everyone safe, new protective measures have been introduced, including limiting capacity to allow for physical distancing, establishing a one-way system throughout the building and providing hand sanitizing stations.

The Monk’s Kitchen Café is open serving a delicious selection of cakes, cream teas, sandwiches, drinks and much more to take away. At this stage, the Gift Shop will remain closed.

Full details can be found on the Cathedral website. There is also a short video which people can view before planning their visit.

Keeping Our Visitors Safe

From Monday 6 July, the Cathedral will be open for general visits. To keep everyone safe, we have changed our opening times and introduced some new protective measures, so a visit will be a little different to normal. These include:

Shortening our opening hours. From Monday 6 July, the Cathedral will be open to all visitors from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Limiting capacity to allow for physical distancing. At peak times, this may mean queuing to get into the Cathedral. Signage encourages visitors to maintain a two-metre distance between themselves and others

Using a one-way system throughout the Cathedral  to prevent close contact. Clearly marked signs and floor marking will show visitors where to go

Closing confined spaces, to  prevent close contact

Providing hand sanitising stations  on entry and throughout the Cathedral

Maintaining high standards of hygiene  and increasing our regular cleaning patterns

Checking and recording the temperature of all front of house staff  at the start of their shift

Partially closing the toilets  to allow for physical distancing. One easy access toilet with a baby change table will remain open. Temporary toilets will also be available in Cathedral Green.

Keeping doors open throughout the building  to maintain good airflow and to reduce contact surfaces

The Monk’s Kitchen is open and providing a contact free takeaway service. Opening times and the menu can be found at www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk/visit/food-and-drink/

The Gift Shop will remain closed.  Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on when it will reopen.

If you feel unwell, please do not come to the Cathedral. Stay home and follow NHS guidelines.

If you have any questions about visiting please email  visits@gloucestercathedral.org.uk

Safe Worship

All worship will be offered in accordance with government and church health and safety guidance. If you wish to attend, please send an email to prayers@gloucestercathedral.org.uk to indicate your attendance (before or after the service) stating clearly your name/s and contact details in order to comply with the track and trace process. These records need to be kept for 21 days and will then be destroyed.

Please refer to the Cathedral website www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk for services and events times.
