About
St Michael’s Tower stands on the highest part of the city of Gloucester where the four main streets cross. Some 25 metres in height it was built in the footprint of the nave of a previous church dedicated to St Michael the Archangel. It was built c.1465 and has been a familiar sight to Gloucestrians for nearly 550 years, throughout the reigns of 23 kings and queens.
St. Michael's Tower has recently been renovated and is now ‘A tower of learning’ – a place where the community and visitors can learn about Gloucester’s rich past, while recording today’s history for future generations to enjoy.
Whats on in the Tower?
There are audio trails where you explore the heritage of the City at your own pace, heritage films where you can watch personal accounts and memories on film, exhibitions where they are various displays throughout the year and you can also hire rooms which are have first class facilities.
St. Michael's Tower is now closed for the winter with regard to heritage information/events. From the 20th October - 20th December St. Michael's Tower will be manned by volunteers selling charity Christmas cards.
