From national touring shows to community theatre, Gloucester has a range of venues and companies to keep you entertained.
Gloucester Guildhall
The vibrant cultural hub of the city, the Grade II listed Gloucester Guildhall is home to a 400-capacity hall, a 100-seater cinema, galleries and the Bar and Kitchen. The lively venue hosts touring theatre productions, live theatre screenings, pantomimes, comedy and is recognised as the county’s best for live music.
The Kings Theatre
Located just five minutes’ walk from Gloucester City Centre on Kingsbarton Street off Eastgate Street, the Kings Theatre has been host to amateur theatre, dance and music performances. Home to several local groups, the 144-seater is staffed by volunteers. Prunella Scales is the current patron and follows in the esteemed footsteps of Sir Michael Horden and Timothy West.
Olympus Theatre
Originally an Art Deco cinema, the Olympus Theatre on Barton Street has hosted theatre productions, dance and live music over the years. Now run by a charity with Gloucester-born actor Simon Pegg as the figurehead, work is underway to restore the Olympus as a community-based theatre.
Strike A Light
The Gloucester-based company attracts world class drama and dance to the city as well as working with local children and young people to discover and develop stars of the future. Strike A Light programmes a diverse range of theatre productions, dance, poetry and music performances at established venues such as Gloucester Guildhall but also reaches new audiences using spaces such as Blackfriars Priory and even car parks for their Rooftop Festival.
