About
The Everyman Theatre was approached in November 2023 to support a group of young people who are Ukrainian refugees. These young people wanted to dramatize written accounts of their experiences. With the help of Everyman Theatre practitioner, Kerry Boorman these children have created a poignant piece of theatre to bring their stories to life.
We are delighted that these wonderful young people have agreed to perform this powerful piece of theatre for us as part of our Celebration of Ukrainian Culture.
Tickets are priced at just £5.50 so that this performance can be as accessible to as many people as possible. Please make an additional donation if you can when you visit the Folk of Gloucester.
Here is a review from the performance at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham:
It's not often one goes to a drama where all eight actors play... themselves. But this was the case on Saturday, February 10th., 2024 at two, one-night-only shows put on by young Ukrainians at Cheltenham Everyman's Studio Theatre.
The dramatic content was drawn from their own personal experiences, traumas, fears and feelings since escaping Ukraine in the days and weeks after Russia's invasion on February 24th., 2022. Most of them, but not all, came to England with a parent. Their play presented their traumas right there in front of us, with dignity and restraint. The effect was visceral and raw. It more than made up for the fact that none of these youngsters are actors, but mostly still at school or heading, some hope, to university in the UK.
It was a privilege to be let in, briefly, to these brave young lives.
