About
Step aboard the last British-built wooden-hulled three-masted topsail schooner left afloat in the world and discover the extraordinary story of a ship that refuses to be forgotten.
Step aboard the historic Kathleen & May and follow a remarkable journey spanning more than 126 years, four historic ports and countless lives connected by Britain's coastal trade.
Launched at Connah's Quay in 1900 as the Lizzie May, later trading from Youghal and Bideford before finding a home in Gloucester Docks, this nationally important vessel carries the stories of sailors, shipwrights, merchants and communities whose livelihoods were shaped by the sea.
Explore areas rarely seen by the public, including the Captain's Cabin, crew quarters and cargo spaces. Meet the volunteer team preserving the vessel, hear first-hand accounts of her rescue and conservation, and see traditional maritime skills helping to safeguard an irreplaceable part of Britain's heritage.
Families can take part in the Kathleen & May Treasure Hunt, complete a Junior Deck Log and earn a Junior Deckhand Certificate while exploring the ship from bow to stern.
Throughout the day, volunteers will share stories of life at sea, tales from the Home Trade and the vessel's remarkable journey from hardworking cargo schooner to National Treasure.
Whether you are fascinated by maritime history, interested in heritage conservation, or simply looking for a memorable family day out, there is something for everyone aboard the Kathleen & May.
