In this one day workshop - 10am - 4pm, you will learn the ancient craft of gold working.
Lead by experienced gold worker, Kim Hardie, in the medieval surroundings of our learning hub, you'll cover the basics of gold-working, creating your own Carne Cross to take home with you.

There will be a lunch break so please bring a packed lunch.

Due to the sharp nature of the needles and scissors please be aware that this workshop is only suitable for independent learners.
Please note this class involves small scale, close-up work.
At the end of the session you'll be able to take your goldwork home with you, or enter it as part of Gloucester Cathedrals summer exhibition - 'Crafts that Built the Cathedral'.
From July - September Gloucester Cathedral will be showcasing heritage skills and art work produced by the community. By taking part in this workshop, you can choose to have your work featured in the exhibition, it will be returned to you, by post on the close of the exhibition in September.
This workshop takes place in our Learning & Participation Hub, the classroom space is up two flights of stairs. Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building we are unable to provide level access to the workshop space.
Please note:
We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only. There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis. About the artist:
Kim Hardie studied embroidery techniques at the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) based at Hampton Court Palace where she completed both her Certificate and Diploma. She is currently a member of the Gloucestershire Goldwork Guild.
As well as working as part of the RSN team that completed the hanging for the Throne Room in Dover Castle, she was also in charge of creating one of the 2012 Olympic Quilts. Kim's artworks have been exhibited at Hampton Court Palace, Alexandra Palace, Olympia, Cumberland Lodge (Windsor Great Park) and Nature in Art Museum and art gallery at Wallsworth Hall, Twigworth, where Kim has also been an 'artist in residence'. She is currently, chair of the Goldwork Guild Gloucestershire where she teaches the embroidery heritage skills.
