Gloucester BID invites families to follow a free Halloween trail around the city centre, solve a mystery word and enter a competition to win a £50 Gloucester Gift Card.

Ten friendly little ghosts have taken up hiding places around Gloucester city centre, and they need your help!

Gloucester BID is inviting families to join its Ten Friendly Little Gloucester Ghosts trail this half term, offering a free, fun-filled activity for children and their grown-ups to enjoy together while exploring the city and supporting local businesses.

The challenge is to find all 10 friendly ghosts hidden around participating city centre businesses. Each ghost is holding a letter, and once families have collected all the letters, they can unscramble them to reveal a mystery word. Participants can then submit their answer online for the chance to win a £50 Gloucester Gift Card.

The trail is a great way to get out and about during the school holidays, discover different parts of Gloucester and enjoy a little Halloween adventure along the way.

Gloucester Library is also taking part in this year's Friendly Little Ghost Trail, encouraging families to visit and discover what the library has to offer during half term, whilst being the pick-up point for the trail maps.

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member for libraries at Gloucestershire County Council, said:

“We're delighted that Gloucester Library is taking part in this year's Friendly Little Ghost Trail. It's a fantastic way to bring families into the city centre during half term, support local businesses and encourage more people to visit the library. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors as they follow the trail and discover their friendly ghost.”

Emily Gibbon, BID Manager at Gloucester BID, said:

“We're delighted to bring the Little Ghost Trail to Gloucester this half term, giving families a free activity to enjoy together while discovering more of our wonderful city centre businesses. There's a fun challenge for everyone to get involved in, and the chance to win a £50 Gloucester Gift Card is an added bonus. We hope the trail encourages families to explore Gloucester, support local businesses and enjoy everything our city has to offer.”

The friendly ghosts have been hand-painted by local artist Jemma Skidmore of Jemma Jamie Designs, bringing a creative, personal touch to the Halloween trail.

Jemma said:

“I've always loved Halloween, so I'm really excited to be involved in a project that brings a little spooky fun to Gloucester. I firmly believe that children should have access to fun, creative activities that are free to enjoy, so it's lovely to be part of something that families can experience together during half term.

“All of the ghosts have been hand-painted in my studio at Jolt Studios in the centre of Gloucester. It was important to us that they were individually painted by hand, particularly at a time when so much is becoming digital. I love the idea of families discovering these little characters around the city and enjoying the trail together.”

Jemma's illustration work has been published in the UK, USA and Europe, and she has contributed to the bestselling Little People, BIG DREAMS book series.

The Ten Friendly Little Gloucester Ghosts trail is free to take part in. Families can pick up a trail map from Gloucester Library at their new location, just off Northgate Street. To submit your entry, follow the instructions and submit the mystery word via the Gloucester BID website.
