Hello Autumn!

Well, after what seems like a super long summer, with mostly wonderfully warm weather, it’s fair to say that the temperatures late afternoon and early evening have definitely dropped off! Never fear, as always, our amazing city has a huge range of things to do, places to visit, and new activities to discover – we’ve popped a few of October’s highlights down below

Orchard St Food & Craft Market

3 – 4 October, Gloucester Quays

Set against the stunning backdrop of Gloucester Quays, the market brings together an exciting mix of delicious, locally sourced food and drink, artisan arts and crafts, jewellery, homeware, plants, seasonal produce, and mouth-watering street food and drinks.

RIDE

3 October, Kings Square

Three men, bound by chance, find their paths converging around a curious thing: a 1980s Ford Orion that appears to have a life of its own. As they embark on an exciting journey, they are made to confront the blurring line between man and machine – and the shifting identities within themselves.

Library Tours: Medieval Theme

6, 13, 16, 26 October, Gloucester Cathedral

Located up a winding spiral staircase, the medieval library contains a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century. Visit their 15th century library and see a selection of their treasurers from the medieval period. From humble histories to illuminated charters step back to their earliest recorded history.

Apple Day

17 October, The Folk of Gloucester

Join The Folk of Gloucester for their annual celebration of Gloucestershire's orchards and cider industry! Working alongside the Gloucestershire Orchard Trust, they invite you to a day of music and dance that pays homage to the amazing variety of apples in Gloucestershire.

Tote Bag Block Printing Workshop

17 October, National Waterways Museum

Join the National Waterways Museum at this workshop on the ancient art of Indian Block Printing which uses hand carved wooden blocks from Jaipur and specialist fabric paint to create beautiful prints. After a short demonstration and practice, they shall help you to unleash your creativity to decorate a small drawstring Bag and a useful Tote Bag. All items are 100% cotton and washable.

Gloucestershire Dance Day

18 October, Gloucester Guildhall

Celebrate movement, culture & community at Gloucestershire Dance Day. Free Dance Workshops, performances, merch, films & joy for all. Whether you're a seasoned dancer, a curious beginner, or simply love to watch and be inspired, there's something for everyone!

Pirate Trail

24 – 31 October, National Waterways Museum

Ahoy, mateys! Get ready for a swashbuckling adventure this half term at the museum! Follow their pirate boat trail throughout the week, can you find the secret code word and prove you're a true pirate?

The Long Man

24 October, Gloucester Cathedral

Discover the fascinating connections between Edward Jenner, John Hunter and the mysterious 'Long Man' in this engaging exploration of their contributions to modern science and medicine. The Friends of Gloucester Cathedral are delighted to welcome Sharon Griffiths to give this fascinating lecture.

Meet The Hatter

27 October, Gloucester Guildhall

This fantastic family show brings audiences a breathtaking retelling of the Hatter's tea party from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Integrating dance, storytelling, digital projections, lighting and animation, Joss Arnott Dance takes you on a journey through a new world celebrating the importance of play whilst exploring how developing self-belief can open up opportunities we've only ever dreamed of.

In The Dance: Beats for Eats

30 October, Gloucester Guildhall

In the Dance brings Gloucester a first of its kind event. Bring a long-life food donation for Gloucester Foodbank and that's your entry. One tin, one bag of pasta, one night of dancing. Expect Garage, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and more from Donovan 'Bad Boy' Smith, Mattik, Big Sis DJs, GRIZ-O and MISSKIKI, alongside a visual show celebrating Gloucester's electronic music history.
