This free, first-of-its-kind event will transform the historic docks into a vibrant hub of live entertainment, hands-on activities, delicious food and drink, and local businesses; all designed to celebrate the city’s unique waterside heritage.
Visitors can enjoy a lively, family-friendly atmosphere throughout the weekend, with creative workshops, pop-up experiences and interactive activities for all ages.
A standout experience will be the chance to step aboard the historic cargo schooner Kathleen & May.
Karen Taylor, Lead Volunteer of Kathleen & May, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome visitors aboard Kathleen & May as part of A Weekend by Water at the historic Port of Gloucester, a designated Heritage Harbour. This free event offers a rare chance to step back in time and experience life aboard a working cargo schooner in her heyday. Brought to life by our passionate volunteers, we’re excited to share the story, spirit, and seafaring heritage of Kathleen & May with all who come aboard.”
Visitors can also explore Llanthony Secunda Priory, which will be opening its doors for tours and open days. Sarah Lewis, Operations Manager, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome visitors to Llanthony Secunda Priory as part of A Weekend by Water. This is a wonderful opportunity to step inside our historic buildings, explore the beautiful grounds, and discover the stories that have shaped this remarkable site over nearly 900 years. Whether joining a guided tour or simply enjoying the open day, we look forward to sharing the Priory with the community.”
Food and drink will be a major highlight, with a range of local traders offering everything from street food favourites to artisan treats. Perfect for enjoying by the water!
Izzy Townsend, Marketing Assistant at Gloucester BID, said:
