Celebrate sustainable shopping, support local charities – and win big!

This summer, the Second Hand Summer Challenge makes its exciting return to Gloucester!

Now through to the 24th August 2025, participants are encouraged to explore the city’s fantastic charity shops, collect a stamp on a loyalty card, and be entered into prize draws for Gloucester Gift Cards. There are six prizes to be won!

How it works:

  1. Pick up a free stamp card with any purchase at a participating charity shop.
  2. Make six purchases across at least three different city-centre charity shops.
  3. Submit your completed card before 24 August 2025 for a chance to win Gloucester Gift Cards.
  4. Keep going – if you complete a loyalty card, start another for even more chances to win!

Charity shops feature goods ranging from vintage fashion to homewares, all while supporting vital causes.

Ellie Cleevely, manager at Cancer Research UK on The Oxebode says, “I think the project is a wonderful opportunity for the local community to help support our charities, our high street, the environment and most importantly get some amazing bargains! … We are very happy to be taking part in such a positive scheme for Gloucester and its residents”.

Emily Gibbon, manager at Gloucester BID, commented, “The Second‑Hand Summer Challenge came about from the city’s love for recycling and sustainability. It’s a great chance for people of all ages to see what our many charity shops have to offer, have a go at up‑cycling, whilst also supporting the city centre… It’s also a great opportunity to have a clear out at home and donate your good quality unwanted items. The participating shops are also fantastic places to find your Gloucester Goes Retro outfit”.
