Heritage Open Day at Gloucester Cathedral

About

Discover the people and places behind the history of Gloucester Cathedral at our free Heritage Open Day.

In partnership with Gloucester Civic Trust and Gloucester History Festival, we're opening our doors to two fascinating places that reveal a different side of the Cathedral's long history, from the skilled craftspeople who care for our magnificent building today to the historic spaces that have witnessed remarkable events over the centuries.

Visitors can drop in and have the unique opportunity to explore the Cathedral's Stonemasons' Workshop and its Learning and Participation Hub at St Mary's Gate. Both offer a chance to look beyond our famous architecture and discover the people, skills and stories that have helped shape our history.

Heritage Open Days are an opportunity to explore places and stories that are not always part of the usual visitor experience. At Gloucester Cathedral, this means looking beyond the familiar views of the building and discovering the work, people and history contained within its walls and surrounding buildings.

Whether you're fascinated by historic architecture, traditional crafts, local history or simply curious about the stories behind one of Gloucester's best-known landmarks, the day offers something worth discovering.

And with free entry, you can drop in, explore at your own pace and discover two very different aspects of the Cathedral's heritage, one looking back to medieval Gloucester, and the other demonstrating how traditional skills continue to protect the building today.
