There's no better time to explore Gloucester than during the Three Choirs Festival. From 25 July to 1 August 2026, the city's historic streets, churches and Cathedral come alive with eight days of music, culture and community, offering plenty to enjoy whether you're a lifelong classical music lover or simply looking for a memorable summer day out.

At the heart of the Festival is Gloucester Cathedral, where breathtaking choral and orchestral performances fill one of England's most magnificent buildings. This year's programme includes much-loved masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Janáček and Elgar, alongside internationally acclaimed performers including Roderick Williams, Ian Bostridge, Mark Padmore, VOCES8 and APOLLO5. The Festival also celebrates new music, with the premiere of a new work by Gloucestershire-born composer and Festival Associate Composer Gavin Higgins.
The Three Choirs Festival is about much more than these awe-astounding concerts. Throughout the week, Gloucester's historic churches host intimate chamber recitals, while talks, exhibitions and guided walks reveal the city's fascinating Roman, Saxon and medieval heritage. You can discover the story of Gloucester Cathedral's newly refurbished organ, explore the city's hidden corners on foot, or enjoy a late-night silent film accompanied by live organ improvisation.
Families are well catered for too, with a programme including Meet the Macbeths, My Favourite Things, Beside the Seaside and Let's Call the Whole Thing Off, offering fun and engaging introductions to music, theatre and storytelling.
Between events, spend time in the Festival Village on College Green, where you can relax with food and drink, browse local exhibitions, enjoy free performances on the Bandstand, and soak up the friendly festival atmosphere. It's the perfect place to meet friends before a concert or simply enjoy being part of one of Gloucester's biggest cultural celebrations.
Whether you come for a flagship concert in the Cathedral, a lunchtime recital, a family event or simply to enjoy the atmosphere around the city, the Three Choirs Festival offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Gloucester at its very best.
