Gloucester’s Big Pub Push is back, bigger and better than ever, a week-long celebration of the city’s vibrant pub culture, running from October 20th – 26th 2025.
This year’s campaign promises to be bigger and better, spotlighting the essential role pubs play in the social and cultural fabric of Gloucester.
It’s led by Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID), in conjunction with the Campaign for Pubs, whose South West Regional Representative Alastair Kerr said:
“I am delighted to not only be one of the organisers of the Big Pub Push, but to endorse this project to support the great pubs that our city has. Pubs are part of the lifeblood of our communities, and they play a vital role in our local society and economy.”
He continued:
“Gloucester has a great deal of fine pubs from the traditional to the more modern vibes. There is something for everyone and always something new to try too. Please support our beloved pubs and support Gloucester’s Big Pub Push!”
Pubs are so much more than simply a place to have a drink, and the Big Pub Push – returning for the third year – seeks to shine a spotlight on our thriving pub and bar scene by encouraging regulars and visitors alike to toast what they have to offer.
A limited-edition beer has been brewed exclusively for the Big Pub Push Week 2025, with Brewhouse and Kitchen creating Beertrix’s Brew. It is a golden, vegan-friendly, hoppy pale ale and will be available in five participating pubs throughout the city, as part of an Ale Trail.
Beertrix’s Brew will be available from The Thirsty Pine, The Drunken Duck, The Pelican Inn, Café Rene, and Brewhouse & Kitchen. More information can be found on the back of the Big Pub Push booklet which can be collected at any of the participating venues.
Hugh Joslyn, Manager at Brewhouse & Kitchen, expressed his excitement in being a part of the Big Pub Push and creation of Beertrix’s Brew:
“We are delighted to be able to support the Big Pub Push for another year, alongside Gloucester BID, and are really looking forward to releasing our one-off brew, Beertrix’s Brew, which promises to be a delicious and refreshing pale ale.
The hospitality sector has been under extreme pressure, especially since the most recent budget, with businesses closing daily. It is incredibly important to us to be able to support as many businesses within the hospitality sector as possible and showcase the amazing things that the British pub brings to the community, be it through big well-known chains or stunning independent local venues. We can’t wait for you all to join us in celebrating what our amazing city has to offer.”
The Big Pub Push is more than just a toast to good beer; it’s a rallying call to support Gloucester’s pubs as vital community hubs. From historic inns to modern craft beer bars, the campaign showcases the diversity and resilience of the city’s hospitality scene. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy live music, pub quizzes, tap takeovers, food specials, and exclusive offers throughout the week.
Gloucester BID has partnered with the Gloucester Civic Trust to offer guided walking tours titled “The Story of Gloucester’s Pubs and Inns.” These 75-minute tours will delve into the rich heritage of Gloucester’s drinking establishments and booking is open on the Gloucester Civic Trust website now.
Emily Gibbon, Manager of Gloucester BID, said:
“We are incredibly proud to support this initiative that celebrates what for many is the beating heart of our city’s community – our amazing pubs. The Big Pub Push is about recognising their cultural value, supporting local businesses, and bringing people together.”
Whether you are a real ale aficionado, a history buff, or simply looking for a great night out, the Big Pub Push 2025 invites everyone to raise a glass to Gloucester’s pub – past, present, and future.
