Cheese & Cider Tasting Evening

About

Join us in the stunning Henry Dene Hall at Llanthony Secunda Priory for an evening celebrating Gloucestershire's rich cider heritage.

Cider and its production is woven into the county's history, shaping the landscape and influencing customs and traditions such as wassailing. From its use as a means of payment for agricultural labourers, to the cider riots of the 1760s, to the recent growth of small artisan producers, cider continues to play an important role in Gloucestershire life. This is a celebration of the drink that Laurie Lee famously described as "wine of wild orchards and of russet summers."

Alongside the talk, enjoy a guided tasting of three locally produced ciders, each thoughtfully paired with a sample of organic cheese. Discover how the character of each cider complements and enhances different flavours, revealing why cider is the perfect partner to artisan cheese.

When not researching the past, Andrew Mellor has worked as a head teacher, actor, storyteller, and most recently as a bookseller with Waterstones. With a lifelong passion for history, he hopes his talks will inspire others to explore and enjoy the fascinating stories behind Gloucestershire's traditions.

Cost: £30 per adult
