One of Gloucester’s strengths is its array of attractions. For a city of its size it outperforms in terms of things to do. Here are a few of our favourites. You can use the search function to find the full list of attractions in the city.

Gloucester Cathedral

The jewel in the crown, Gloucester Cathedral is an incredible masterpiece in stone. The Cathedral has been a place of worship for over 1,300 years and charts the finest examples of different styles in architecture. It has some of the finest examples of stained glass in the country the highlight being the majestic Great East Window. The setting has been immortalised in some of the biggest films and TV shows including Harry Potter, Mary Queen of Scots, Sherlock, Wolf Hall and Dr Who.

Museums

The City boasts a number of high quality museums to educate and entertain. The Tailor of Gloucester Beatrix Potter Museum and Shop is located in the original building used by Beatrix Potter in her story The Tailor of Gloucester. The Glorious Glosters – the most decorated regiment in the British Army – are celebrated at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, while there are thousands of fantastic exhibits at the Museum of Gloucester, The Folk of Gloucester, the Jet Age Museum and the National Waterways Museum.

Activities

If you are looking for something a bit more energetic from your visit take a look at our activities page. You can get your adrenaline pumping and take part in a Ninja Warrior challenge or for something a bit gentler why not experience the docks close up on a paddle board.

Shopping

Gloucester is well stocked with stores and shopping centres for all your retail therapy needs. Gloucester Quays designer outlet offers big discounts on your favourite brands, and King's Walk and Eastgate Shopping Centre have a range of retailers from clothes and fashion to opticians and chemists and food shops.

SUP Gloucester

Stand-up paddleboarding in Gloucester Docks, canal and River Severn. We’ll take you through water safety, paddling skills and board control. You’ll paddle alongside Tall Ships with the Cathedral as a backdrop in Gloucester’s Historic Docks.
Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre

St. Mary de Lode is the city's oldest Parish Church being built in the 12th Century. It was built over a Saxon Church and a Roman Building.
The Roman Mosaic tiled floor can still be seen in the church today.
