About

Berkeley is a stunning medieval castle which has been the home of the Berkeley family since 1153.

Tall towers, deep dungeon, grand and gruesome: homely and horrid. Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn & Elizabeth I stayed here; Edward II was murdered here, Shakespeare wrote ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ for a Berkeley family wedding.

Castle tours reveal tapestries, paintings, and fine silver. Terraced gardens filled with unusual plants, beautiful Lily Pond, picnic area and The Hideout coffee shop.  Groups welcomed with your own Guided Tour.

Location for the filming of The White Princess & Johnny English and the BBC’s adaptation of Wolf Hall & Poldark.

Family activities include Archery, Jousting, Knight School & our woodland play area. Exciting event calendar throughout the season. Please see our website for more information .
