After a jam packed 2023 in Gloucester, it is hard to believe that we are already looking forward to 2024 with an even bigger line up of events in the city. Whether you are a historian or have a passion for music, whether you love all things retro or are more of a foodie, Gloucester has it covered.


Hop Kettle Gloucester Food DockGloucester Food Dock located in Victoria Basin, is the neighbourhood destination for the foodies amongst you. Hop Kettle Brewing Co. was the first to open in October 2023, whilst January and February will see the last of the fourteen independent, artisan traders opening their doors. You can already enjoy Authentic Italian Pizza at Bella Mia Pizza, with its hidden Cocktail Bar, or Italian-style artisan Gelato, desserts and shakes at Wholly Gelato, who use the milk from their mixed-breed, free range herd on their family farm in Elmore. Hetty’s Place offers freshly cooked brunch, delicious coffee, and the most indulgent award-winning brownies, whilst Our House is the perfect place to snack on a charcuterie board whilst you get stuck into your new favourite bottle of wine, discover a cracking Spanish lager, or pop a bottle of prosecco, the menu also includes, cocktails, mocktails and coffees! The Museum of Gloucester is once again working with the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) to bring their renowned International Photography Exhibition (IPE) 164 to Gloucester in March 2024. GEORGE McLEOD called Tree Huggers from the Future - IPE Exhibition

 Over 8,000 images were entered by 3,944 photographers from 114 countries, making this a record-breaking year for the most countries engaged with in an open call to the competition. A total of 96 works by 46 photographers will be on display in the Museum from 2 March until 2 June 2024.


On Saturday 30 March, Gloucester Guildhall presents Underground Festival. Underground is a multi-venue festival of new music, across the Guildhall, Blackfriars Priory, The Music Works studios, and Guildhall Cinema.

Boat to Roww Band Previous headliners have included Bastille, Lower Than Atlantis, Frank Carter, Mallory Knox, Holding Absence and loads more since starting in 2009. The 2024 line-up features the finest new artists, and tomorrow's festival headliners. Supported by Arts Council funding, the festival operates on a 'Pay What You Can' ticket price. 


Easter Sunday falls on 31 March this year, and as always, all are warmly welcomed to join Gloucester Cathedral during Holy Week and Easter. There will be special services throughout Holy Week, as well as plenty of fun, family-friendly activities to coincide with the Easter Holidays.


Friday 12 April – Sunday 14 April sees the arrival of Gloucester History Festival’s Spring Weekend 2024, with a weekend of live talks at the beautiful Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester.Glos History Festival Logo

After the sell-out success of the first Spring Weekend in 2023, this is an experience not to be missed, with twenty incredible events featuring speakers including Philippa Langley, Sathnam Sanghera, Dan Jones, Kavita Puri and many more. The Gloucester History Festival is spearheaded by Festival President Janina Ramirez and supported by Patrons Michael Wood and David Olusoga. The Autumn Festival is an even bigger affair, where you can join over one hundred of Britain’s top historians and authors for over two hundred events spanning our ancient city, including the unique tradition of Gloucester Day and Heritage Open Days. Blackfriars Talks take place for 10 days at the iconic Blackfriars Priory from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 September 2024, the full programme will be announced in July 2024.


From Saturday 29 June until 6 October, visitors to the Museum of Gloucester will be able to explore the history of the world in miniature as LEGO® exhibition Brick History goes on display.Lego Exhibition

The exhibition, created by acclaimed LEGO® artist Warren Elsemore and his team of incredibly talented designers, focuses on pivotal moments in world history. History is brought to life with displays featuring key events such as Dinosaur extinction and the Battle of Hastings, key figures from Mozart to Martin Luther King and scientific discoveries from the Big Bang to DNA (plus much, much more!)


Gloucester Day falls on 7 September this year, and the Cross Streets of Gloucester will come alive with stalls, stands, lively performances, and all the pomp and ceremony of the traditional Gloucester Day parade through the four main gated streets, led by the Mayor and Sheriff of Gloucester, in full Civic Regalia.

The Gloucester Day event is the reinstatement of the original Gloucester Day – a day of celebration on the lifting of the siege of Gloucester – in 1643. The annual celebration is organised by Gloucester’s town crier Alan Myatt and supported by Gloucester City Council.


It would not be August without one of the highlights of Gloucester’s Festival Calendar, with Gloucester Goes Retro, the world’s best, free, classic car show.

Gloucester Goes RetroThe streets of the city and the historic dock are jam packed with gleaming vintage cars, you will find an amazing array of nautical activities at Retro on the Water, and delicious food and drink aplenty, as well as vintage fashion and shopping. Mariners Square is the spot for music and dance enthusiasts with retro acts and swing dancing, whilst Kings Square represents all things 80s and 90s. Pride in Gloucestershire’s main event takes place on Saturday 14 September right here in the city, standing as a beacon of celebration and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community of the county. Kicking off with a march through the city, followed by a jam-packed day of celebration in Gloucester Park. This is the culmination of the county wide tour, with Pride in Gloucester’s commitment to inclusivity going beyond urban boundaries, pop in in your diary now.


Gloucester BelievesAs you may have seen last year, Gloucester is an amazing place to visit during the run-up to Christmas, bursting with winter markets, beautiful illuminations, floating sleigh rides, amazing events and experiences, visits from Santa, crafting workshops, and Christmas parties, there will even be a Christmas nativity with a radical remix at the Museum of Gloucester, think big beat songs and live special effects! As always, the festivities will start with the magical Lantern Procession and Tree of Light Switch-on in Kings Square, there is nowhere better to believe in the magic of Christmas.
