Llanthony Priory in the sunshine

Poetry in the Priories

Part of the Serenity in the City Campaign Poetry in the Priories sees the Gloucestershire Poet Laureate Ziggy Dicks (learn more about Ziggy here www.thegloucestershirepoetrysociety.co.uk) create bespoke poetry for four priories across the city. Ruins have been inspiring poetry in Britain for hundreds of years. There is an 11th Century Poem called the Ruin which was written by a Benedictine monk. We have continued this tradition by asking Ziggy to write a poem for each of the priories in the city.

The poems will be displayed in each of the priories in Gloucester until the end of September. We hope they inspire the next generation of future poets. Please do take a moment to visit them as you pass by.
